I am figuring out how to build my system as simple as possible. Just notice that the links to "A Plain Text Personal Organiser" and "Todo.txt in Action" are pointing to the very same URL.

Re: What David Bowie Can Teach You About Self-Reinvention

Totally agree. Another thing about Bowie that I've found inspiring in the long run is he wasn't afraid to take chances that occasionally were maybe a little embarrassing ('Never Let Me Down' was a little bit of a let-down, to be fair). I remember him citing the old adage you've got to be willing to fail a lot if you want to win.

Re: 26 Music Marketing Resources To Kickstart 2013

I really enjoyed and appreciated this! I currently started an experiment where I carry a dumbphone instead of iPhone with me. But ultimately it seems like I will go the Jake Knapp route - just disable most internet apps.

Re: Do You Really Need To Hoard All That Digital Junk?

I do believe that my digital hoarding hurts my productivity, especially when it comes to trying to find something in my system. Search only goes so far.

In all seriousness, this is a big issue - especially for the next generation of kids. Can you believe all the information they have cross their paths each day??!!?! Someone will need to develop the solution to organize this all better.

Re: Cassettes Aren’t Hip, They’re Rubbish

I actually still have a large collection of cassettes and a couple of walkman. I also have an entire CD collection in the cloud that I access through google play. My preference is the cassette deck. If you have taken care of your cassettes the sound is great. I enjoy popping in a tape and playing through an entire album without having to worry about digital music ADD setting in. I believe people are much more likely to experience an entire album if listening on tape or vinyl. These days people tend to buy single tracks instead of albums and its so easy to skip a song that you miss out on so much great music. Maybe the cassette isn't the best format but it gives me a warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling, and it certainly isn't rubbish.

Re: Productivity Hacks Aren’t A Shortcut To Success

Thanks for the great feedback! I use index cards for my next actions, a Moleskine for my inbox and an A5 Black n' Red notebook as my project management bible. I still use Evernote for reference material, articles etc; but I like to have my project goals / outlines laid out in my own handwriting. I can manage up to 20+ projects at once that way.

Re: Getting Things Done Hipster-Style

For implementing GTD you can use this web-application:

http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, and a calendar.
Syncs with Evernote and Google Calendar, and also comes with mobile version, and Android and iPhone apps.

Re: Productivity Hacks Aren’t A Shortcut To Success

Wow - this post really resonated with where I am at right now. I find that regardless of the issue from weight loss to getting out debt; from quitting nasty habits to following an action plan people struggle. There is a search for a quick fix, a microwave solution.

As you mentioned the problem is not the self-help industry or a book, or an author. Rather, it is the man in the mirror (in my case). We over educate ourselves and in many cases never take action.

Thanks for the incredibly valuable article.

Re: Getting Things Done Hipster-Style

I totally agree that good use of GTD methodology requires other tools. For me it's also ubelieveble to manage my tasks using only Moleskine and EN and I rather use Evernote and SmartTM app (Things haven't met my expectations).

Re: Getting Things Done Hipster-Style

I have so many details coming in on my projects (25-30 active at the moment) that I can't imagine keeping it all straight in a moleskin, though I used them for years. Too much wasted time rewriting, and as a project manager, I need to provide notes to my entire teams.

Evernote has been a godsend, along with Things which manages my tasks but at the same time stays linked to the requisite notes in Evernote.

My backup plan is three fold. Evernote and Things are backed up in their respective clouds, I use Crashplan to automatically backup up every version of everything in my user library, even deleted files, and once a week I put my Mac to bed with Superduper making an image of the entire hard drive. This image is bootable, so in the event of a disaster, I just plug in the external drive and keep working.

Between the three backup strategies, once I got them setup, it requires only about 5 minutes a week of work. And I have guaranteed that I will lose nothing with all of this redundancy. If they'd arranged it like Definitely Maybe it would've sounded fantastic. Having said that, I do like to think there is a stripped back version out there somewhere, something akin to Let It Be... Naked, but I doubt they'll ever revisit it.

Re: 26 Music Marketing Resources To Kickstart 2013

No problem Chris.
